Robert Thomas Avery, a harness horse trainer for Monticello Raceway in Monticello, died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at his home in Monticello surrounded by his family. He was 54. The son of the late Robert J. Avery and Virginia Freeman Avery, he was born November 25, 1953 in Monticello. He is survived by his wife: Beth Rosenstein Avery, at home; a son: Dylan Avery, at home; a daughter: Laurie Avery-Moeykens & her husband Joseph of Honesdale, PA; two grandsons: Adam & Elliott; a sister: Geri Woloshin of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 15 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 16 at 10:00am at St. Peters Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or to the American Cancer Society, 419 East Main Street, Suite 307B, Middletown, NY 10940.
