Obituary of Riley John Platt, Jr.

Riley John Platt, Jr. of Wurtsboro, a lifelong resident of the area, died peacefully at his home on Friday, February 1, 2008. He was 74.
The son of the late Riley John Platt Sr. and Loretta Martyn Platt, he was born March 31, 1933. Known affectionately as Bud, he served in the United States Army and was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Town of Mamakating. He was the widow of Dorothy Sarine Platt, his childhood sweetheart who predeceased him on June 5, 2005 after 50 years of marriage.
Bud is survived by two daughters: Charlene Young & her husband Michael of Wurtsboro and Stephanie Platt of Ellenville; two sons: Bruce Platt & his wife Angela of Yankee Lake and Riley Bud Platt III of Spring Glen; three sisters-in-law: Arlene Platt of Wurtsboro, Pauline Platt of Cornwall-on-Hudson and Charlotte Marcantonio & her husband Mike of Parsippany, NJ; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews including Harriet Hughes of Wurtsboro, Joyce Della-Vedova of Cornwall-on-Hudson, Laura Morelli of Middletown, John Platt and Donald Platt Jr., both of Wurtsboro and Michael Marcantonio of New Jersey.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by four brothers: Jake Platt, Ed Platt, Don Platt and Joe Stedner; two sisters: Celia Hogencamp and Bertha Huppman; a niece: Sharon Platt; a nephew: Edward Platt Jr.; and many other cousins and in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 4 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 5 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mamakating First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 525, Wurtsboro, NY 12790 or to the Wurtsboro Fire Dept., P.O. Box 442, Wurtsboro, NY 12790.
