Obituary of Jessie Higashi Culver

Jessie H. Culver, in the care of her children, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2008. She was 81 and a breast cancer survivor of 20 years.
Jessie lived in Wurtsboro NY for 50 years. In 2003 she moved to Fabius, NY. She was a loving wife and a wonderful mother. Occasionally, she worked part time jobs outside the home. She was a communicant at St Joseph's Church and a long time member in the Ave Maria Guild.
She was born in California and after high school, moved back to Japan. It was there she met and married, Harold N. Culver who was stationed with the Army in Eta Jima, and then settled in Wurtsboro.
Jessie is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Harold N. She is survived by son Clay Culver (Kim Johnstone) of Sandia Park, NM; daughters Marie E. Culver (Dean Haycock) of Salem NY and Sarah A Culver (Scott MacWilliam) of Fabius NY; sisters, Doraine Higashi and Clara (Fujima) Matsumoto both of California, Mary Higashi and Alice Higashi, both of Tokyo Japan, and sister-in-law Eileen Boswell of Wurtsboro NY; grandsons Tyler Culver, Hugh B MacWilliam and Jesse MacWilliam; and several nieces and nephews including Mary Meyle and Lisa Reuss of New York, Frank, John & Gretchen Matsumoto of California; Grace Higashi of California, Walter Gavry of Colorado and Martha Loporto of Boston, Mass.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 7 at 10:00am at St. Josephs Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phillipsport.
