Bernie Auerbach passed away early Saturday morning, November 17, 2007. He was 81 years old. The son of the late Sophie Koenig and Henry Auerbach, he was born May 4, 1926 in New York City and was a resident there before moving to Rock Hill in 1992. Bernie was a World War II Army veteran stationed in Korea at the war's end. After receiving his honorable discharge, Bernie became a New York State Police Officer and later left the police force to work as an electronic technician for a New York defense contractor. Bernie is survived by his wife of 39 years: Ruth; a sister: Sally Lazarescu; and nieces: Ellen Miller and Joyce Auerbach. He will be missed by his extended families - Hogan, Lipton, Frederick and Cunningham - as well as all his friends and neighbors in Emerald Green. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning, November 24 from 9-10 a.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating. Burial will follow in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.
