Ruth M. Magie
Forestburgh, New York
On August 26, 2007, Ruth Marie Magie entered into eternal rest at Saint Josephs Nursing Home with her loving family by her side.
She was born in New York City. Her parents were the late Elizabeth E. Declercq and Michael J. Declercq. For nineteen years she was the wife of a devoted husband, John Magie and she was the widow of Melvin T. Starr. Melvin and Ruth were married for thirty eight years and had five children.
She was educated at St. Francis DeSales school in the Bronx and graduated from Monticello High School. As a long time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and a devout Roman Catholic she shared her values and faith with her family and neighbors.
Ruth was employed by Key Bank, formerly National Union Bank for over twenty years. She enjoyed customer service and working with her fellow bankers at the Broadway, Monticello Branch. She retired from banking in 1988 and enjoyed her retirement years with her husband John. They especially were very happy in their Florida home where they traveled to each winter.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and cooking for her family. She had a great love of fashion in both clothing and home decorating. She loved the ocean and dancing.
Her daughters were proud to have her as their mother because of her love for life and the love they shared. She was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband John Magie of Forestburgh, two daughters: Elizabeth A. Owen and her husband Terry of Dolgeville, New York and Joan M. Kehlenbeck and her husband John Kehlenbeck of Cuddebackville; four grandchildren, Daniel Kehlenbeck and his wife Karin of Huguenot, Andrew Kehlenbeck of Cuddebackville, Timothy Kehlenbeck of Cuddebackville, Susan M. Miller and her husband Gregg of Schuylerville, New York, and Sherry Anne Owen of Herkimer, New York; four great-grandchildren, Login, Kylie, Nathaniel and Benjamin. She was pre-deceased by three children that died at birth.
The family will receive visitors at the VanInwegen - Kenny Funeral Home at 401 Broadway, Monticello on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. There will be a short prayer service at the funeral home at 11:30 AM. A mass to celebrate Ruths life will be held at 12:30 PM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh. Burial will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery Route 42 Forestburgh, NY.
