John Hogan of Summitville, died Sunday October 21, 2012 at home after a 2 year battle with brain cancer. He was 60. John was born March 29, 1952 in New York City and raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He was the son of the late John P. and Dorothy R. (Atchison) Hogan. John served in the Navy from 1971 to 1975 and attained the rank of Petty Officer - 2nd Class. He worked for over 32 years as a lineman in the phone company (starting at AT&T and ending with Verizon) and retired in 2002. John was known for his passion for music (as evidenced by his huge album and always growing CD collection) and enjoyed playing and studying chess. He also pursued other hobbies in retirement - he took classes in painting/drawing and loved to spend time trying out his woodworking skills (but mostly enjoyed buying lots of tools). His favorite hangout was the D'lites ice cream stand in Ellenville. John is survived by his loving wife, Monique. He is also survived by his sisters: Kathleen Rozak and her husband, Nick, Mary Hogan, Margaret Cornish and her husband, Brian, Ann Frederick and her husband, Wayne, Gloria Cunningham and her husband, Patrick; his brothers: Daniel, Matthew , Roger , Joseph , Patrick , William & Peter Hogan; his nieces: Mary Ellen Rozak, Colleen Frederick, Sarah, Molly & Grace Cunningham, and Andrea & Hannah Berg; his nephews: Nicholas & Jack Rozak; John, Liam, Brendan, James & Michael Frederick and Nathan, Adam & Jacob Berg; his sister-in-law: Danielle Berg and her husband Alan. He also leaves behind his aunt Ruth Auerbach for whom John was like a son. He will be missed by his dear friend Timothy Paulding, his wife Victoria and their son James Paulding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 6-9pm and Thursday and Friday from 2-4 & 6-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 1:00pm at the Church of Saint Mary & Saint Andrew, 137 South Main Street, Ellenville NY. Burial with military honors will follow at Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Bloomingburg, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the food pantry at the Church of Saint Mary & Saint Andrew, 137 South Main Street, Ellenville or to the Summitville Fire Company, P.O Box 296, Summitville, NY 12781.
