Obituary of Edward L. Wilkinson

Edward L. Wilkinson, Jr., a lifelong resident of Wurtsboro has joined his children, Brian and Michele, in Heaven, after passing away on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at his home in Wurtsboro surrounded by his family. He was 73. The son of the late Edward L. Wilkinson ,Sr. and Estelle Smithem Wilkinson, he was born May 23, 1933 in Wurtsboro. Ed served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a devoted friend and lifelong supporter to the Village of Wurtsboro being involved in many civic and fraternal organizations. He is survived by his wife of 34 years: Linda Schoonmaker Wilkinson, at home; a sister: Terrie Hoar of Ellenville; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many area friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his children: Brian & Michele; a sister Betty Lindsay; and a nephew: Kevin Hoar. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 1 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. The Mamakating American Legion Post #1266 will conduct a service at 7:00pm and the Wurtsboro Fire Dept. will conduct their service at 7:15 on Tuesday evening. Interment of his ashes will be held privately in the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 or to the Michele Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship, in care of the Wurtsboro Fire Dept.
