Obituary of Mardell Roosa Auer

Mardell Florence Roosa Auer of Wurtsboro, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, died Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 88. The daughter of the late Harrison Roosa and Alice Olcott Roosa, she was born January 14, 1924 in Wurtsboro. She was the widow of Edward Auer who predeceased her in 1997. A former food service manager for Times Square Stores in Long Island, Mardell was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wurtsboro and the Mamakating Historical Society. She is survived by a son: Henry Auer of Wurtsboro; two daughters: Deborah Pawson & her husband Thomas of Ormond Beach, FL, and Kathleen Rizzo & her husband Mario of West Babylon; seven grandchildren: Jill Harrold, Jackie Auer, Nicholas Riffone, Anthony Riffone, Tiffany Pawson, Daniel Rizzo and Dean Rizzo; two great granddaughters: Elliana and Charleigh; a brother: Franklin Roosa & his wife Linda of Wurtsboro; a sister: Marie Woodruff of Ellenville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter: Mardell Riffone; two brothers: Birdsall and Elmer; and three sisters: Audrey, Isabella and Lorraine. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 16 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 17 at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro. Memorial contributions can be made to a breast cancer foundation of their choice.
