Obituary of William C. Johnson

William C. Johnson Wurtsboro, NY William C. Johnson of Wurtsboro, a retired police officer from Miami, Florida and a driver for the Teamsters Local 445 in Newburgh, died Monday, April 2, 2007 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 76. He was born January 27, 1931 in the Bronx and was the widower of Mary Ellen Cunningham Johnson who predeceased him on July 27, 2001. Bill was known for his stone house with his flowers and gardens. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved nature and the outdoors. He Served in the US Navy and was a member of The American Legion Post #1266, Mamakating; the Mamakating Historical Society and the Mamakating Conservation Club. Survivors include two daughters: Maryjean Ingram & her husband Robert of Medfield, Mass and Barbara Jahrling & her husband Michael of Yellville, AR; a daughter-in-law: Lee Johnson; seven grandchildren: Shannon Shields & her husband Michael, Maryellen Tabor & her husband Brandon, Michael Paul Jahrling, Brittany Johnson, Meghan Ingram, Christopher Ingram & Ryan Ingram; three great grandchildren: Lyla, Logan & Zannah. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son: Paul Johnson; and two grandsons: Eric and Sean Johnson. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:00am at St. Josephs Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Fr. Peter Madori will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro. The family has requested donations be made to the American Legion Post #1266, PO Box 42, Wurtsboro, NY 12790.
