Uncle Jimmy? What can you not say about him. I am so glad to say what an awesome individual. I do remember all the positive he left on everyone. Although over the years, because we have lost touch, I can say that he will be very well remembered in the many years to come. May God rest his soul.

Jim and I became friends when I was an up and coming female firefighter for Bloomingburg in 1990. He taught my essentials class. I dreaded every Saturday morning. I thought he was like a drill seargant in the army and I wanted to quit. I could not believe that a man could push me so hard to make me want to hit him. I would tell my chief that I could not do this. Every week Jim would ask me when I was quiting. He would make me so angry. To prove a point I hung in there. It was not until the 10th week I realized what Jim was doing. He did not want me to quit. He was teaching me a lesson that I have since carried with me through my life and now am passing down to my children. That day when I realized he was just trying to get me to work harder and teach me that life can sometimes be hard on you, not to give up and quit. Even when someone is making your life intentionally tough not to give up."make the other guy uncomfortable" so they quit" Since that day Jim and I became friends. Important friends. Lasting friends. I would share important events in my life with him. When I received Firefighter of the Year in 1992. Jim was there and presented me with my plaque. I could not have achieved that award with out him. As I got older and got married I invited Jim and Barbara to my wedding. They could not attend but Jim called and wished me luck. After my 2 kids were born I felt a need to tell Jim the impact he has made on my life. I wrote him a letter letting him know that his advice along the years has taught me to be a good firefighter, a good wife, a good mother and a good friend. He told me I did not have to write a letter he already knew. He could tell because we had stayed friends. When my children ask me why I wanted to be a firefighter I tell them I wanted to be a firefighter to help people but I stayed a firefighter because of Jim.
Jim was also very proud of his wife and family. He would tell anyone who was willing to listen how much he loved them. He loved how they would allow him to do the things he loved to do the most. I will miss him. I will always remember him. Patti Meyer-Meade

I was shocked when I heard the news that Jim passed away. He was always a great mentor for me. Jim taught me how to get dressed fast in turnout gear with the fire department! He lived life the way it's supposed to be lived. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
