John James Venere, a general contractor, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his home in Westbrookville. He was 58. The son of the late John Venere and Gloria Walters Venere, he was born June 19, 1955 in Bronxville. John was a good friend and neighbor who was much loved by those of us who knew him. He courageously battled cancer for four years, keeping his determination and sense of humor until the day he died. He is survived by his wife Lisa Marascio; and a sister Gloria Venere Marraccini and her husband Frank Maraccini. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, February 8 from 12:30 to 1:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to The Catskill Regional Medical Center - Oncology Department or to the American Cancer Society in John's name.
