Obituary of Robert A. Pless

Robert Arthur Pless of Monticello, a retired employee of the Village of Monticello Water Dept. (among many other things), passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 93. The youngest child of the late Henry Pless and Frances (Rouff) Pless he was born November 16, 1926 in White Lake, NY. He was the widower of Mildred “Shea” Pless . Bob was a World War II veteran serving in the Pacific with the United States Navy. There was nothing he couldn’t do, from building his own home as well as many miles of perfect stone walls; he was affectionately known as “Superman” by his loving family. Imagine our surprise a couple of years ago when we found out he was still bleeding the fire hydrants at the Monticello Raceway! He was quiet and unassuming, and one of the kindest souls you could ever know. He is survived by a daughter: Lynn Whalan & her husband Bill of Monticello; a son: Robert M. Pless & his wife Debra of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and his good friend Rose Fredericks. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his sisters Mildred Vogeny, Dorothy Zane and Ruth Pomeroy; and one brother Charles Pless. Visitation will be held (today) Monday, March 9 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Anthony Ciaccio officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.
