Doris Duncan of Monticello died Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Roscoe Regional Rehab and Healthcare Facility. She was 78. The daughter of the late Theodore Barnes and Ella Mae Harris Barnes, she was born August 11, 1935 in Prentiss, Miss. Doris was the owner, hair stylist and makeup artist of DD’s Hair Salon. Later in life, she attended Sullivan County Community College where she obtained her Associates degree. She was also a Substitute Teacher for the Monticello School District. Those who knew her well knew she was a great conversationalist, avid reader and loved going for long walks. She is survived by two daughters: Sheila Duncan, Tybee Gilmore, and a son Gary Duncan; her son-in-law Stanley Gilmore; four grandchildren: Andre Duncan, Sharesse Duncan, Tieri Gilmore and Nikkita Bryant; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers: Paul, Leverne, Altee, Amos, Dillon, and James Barnes; and a sister, Pauline Simmons. She has one surviving sister Erma King. As per Doris’ request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc.
