Obituary of Agatha Regina Hutson

Elder Agatha Regina Hutson passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was born on June 3, 1941 to the late Calvin and Marie Agatha Watson Curtiss Sr. in Brooklyn, New York.
She was a graduate of the Bethel Elementary and Academy of Seventh -Day Adventist Schools and attended Brooklyn College. She was a retired patient care technician of 38 years at Catskill Regional Medical Center, medical assistant at the Late Dr. Eric Shapiro’s medical office for 7 years and more recently employed at Sullivan ARC as a Dayhab Provider for 12 years.
In 1968 she was united in marriage to Moses Hutson who preceded her in death in 1991. From this union 2 children were born – Reneé Marie and Michael Anthony.
She was one of the founding members of the Monticello Seventh-Day Adventist Church and held many positions over 38 years including Usher Board Director, Deaconess, Women’s’ Ministry Coordinator, Prayer Warrior and Mother of the Church. She was a Sabbath School Teacher and Assistant Director of the church’s Community Dinner on Sundays. She was elevated to the position and ordained a local elder in 2001. She loved to bake, do crafts and needlework which many friends and family members were blessed to receive as gifts.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Reneé & her husband Steven of Monticello, New York, and Michael & his wife Tangela of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grandsons, Shane, Elijah, Shaun, Nasir and Seth; her brother Calvin C. Curtiss Jr. and his wife Stephanie; adopted sister Mother Mary A. Williams; and extended family Laconia Turner, Clifford Johnson, Eric Johnson, Odean and Vanroy Ferguson and their children; and a host of nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, September 26 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 15 St. John Street, Monticello, NY. Her funeral service will begin at 1pm at the church with Pastor Billwayne Jamel and Pastor Daniel Zapaleta officiating. Burial will follow at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to benefit Agatha's grandchildren and their higher education. These donations can be mailed to Reneé Jackson, PO Box 816, Monticello, NY 12701.
