Obituary of Gertrude Gipson

Gertrude Seargent Gipson, a former resident of Monticello, passed away on December 29, 2018 at the Beverwyck Eddy Village Green in Slingerlands, NY. She was 95. The daughter of the late Francis Seargent and Fannie Robinson Seargent, she was born in Monticello on September 7, 1923. She was the widow of Donald L. Gipson who predeceased her on February 6, 2006. Gertrude was a 1941 graduate of Monticello High School. She worked for the electric company until she married her husband Donald. The family moved to Patterson, New York in 1965 where she was an active member of the DAR and volunteered for many community organizations including her church, the library, and the hospital. She is survived by five children: Suzanne Farnham of Baltimore, MD, Diane Gipson of Boston, MA, Thomas Gipson & his wife Pat of Raleigh, NC, Robert Gipson & his wife Nellie of Unadilla, NY, and Sally Tully & her husband Lawrence of Cazenovia, NY; a son-in-law: Greg LaQuadra of North Liberty, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; her two sisters Clare Hembdt and Margaret McNeely, and many nieces and nephews. Her nephew Philip Hembdt took special care of her in her later years. In addition to her husband Donald, she was predeceased by a daughter Elizabeth Gipson; her two brothers Douglas and Donald Seargent; and a son-in-law: Rev. Lyman Farnham. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:30am at the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian, 11 Jones Street in Monticello.
