Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Mentnech of Woodbourne, NY departed this life on her 96th birthday with her family at her side. Mary was the first child born to Anthony and Myrtle Kracht Cypert on August 21, 1917. She met her husband, Arthur in the church choir and soon were married. Art and Mary were married 57 years prior to his death, in 1994. Together they owned and operated until retirement, Art's Garage on Grahamsville Road in Woodbourne. Mary was a lifelong parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church and a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Along with her dear friend Ann Dill, she decorated the church on every Friday and holiday. "Aunt Mary" was best known for her homemade rolls and ability to grow just about anything. She always attributed to her gardening and ability to grow anything, from her wonderful childhood on the family farm on Cypert Road. Grandma loved the little ones so every child, grandchild and great grandchild was wrapped in Grandma's love at night, warmly embraced by her soft and plump hand-pieced quilts. Mary was blessed with seven children, all surviving: three sons: James (Irma) Mentnech, John (Pam Henning) Mentnech, Tony (Trisha) Mentnech all of Woodbourne; four daughters: Anne (Homer) Waring of San Antonio, TX, Jane Hammer, Judi (Al) Gerow, all of Woodbourne, and Alice (Paul) Edelman of Monticello; her grandchildren: Bonnie Lewis, Janet Hubbert, Patti Milisauskas, Phillip, Scott, Keith, Brian, Peter and Misty Mentnech, Jodi Kanatzar, Jenni Huffman, Sara Smith, Carol Kinard, Lori Brazzill, Vickie Kiakis, Judi Ann Cole, Andi Hammer, Nikki Wallace, Tracey Caldwell, Aimee Pittaluga and JR Edelman; great grandma to 46, AKA Grandma M and M or Bulldog as she was so lovingly called by some; and Great Great Grandma of two. She is also survived by her brother Walter Cypert of Woodbourne and a sister Thelma Misko of Grahamsville, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Paul and David Cypert; a sister Rita Hotchkin; and her loving grandson Lee Hammer. Our mother worked very hard her entire life. She gave us lots to be thankful for and was a very strong woman. Special thanks go to Dr. Butler of Catskill Regional Medical Center for her loving and tender care. Family & friends are invited to gather at Mary and Art's home, 6310 State Route 42, Woodbourne, NY on Sunday, August 25 from 2pm until 7pm. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 26 at 10am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 6317 State Route 42 in Woodbourne with Fr. John Lynch officiating.
