Obituary of Hilda Finnema

Hilda Finnema of Bloomingburg, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 92. The daughter of the late Cornelis Schots and Jantje Visser Schots, she was born February 17, 1926 in Bakhuiczen, Netherlands. Hilda and her husband Jack came to the Unites States in 1953 and eventually settled in Bloomingburg where she was a member of the Bloomingburg Dutch Reformed Church and Community Church of Bloomingburg. She loved birds, flowers, and always had a smile on her face, especially when she was in her garden. She is survived by a son: Andre Finnema & his wife Cynthia of Bloomingburg; a daughter: Nancy Plocharczyk & her husband Charles of Burlingham; a granddaughter: Jodi Robinholt & her fiancé Mark Blanchard; step-grandchildren: David Plocharczyk & his wife Sandra, and Susan Plocharczyk; a brother: Jochum Schots of Kempen, Germany; two sisters: Aaltje de Vries of Laaksum, Netherlands and Ackje Smid-Schots of Katanning, Australia; her Meals-on-Wheels "Angel" Michelle; and many nieces and nephews, both here in America and in Europe. In addition to her husband Jack, she was predeceased by a brother, Johannes Schots; and a sister, Helen Faber. Family & friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, September 19 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street with a prayer service starting at 3pm with Chris Boyd from Hospice officiating. Interment of her ashes will be held at the convenience of the family at the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.
