Michael Joseph McDermott "Mac" of Wurtsboro, a retired heating and air conditioning mechanic for Daley Oil in Newburgh, died Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 64. The son of the late Patrick McDermott and Mary Conway McDermott, he was born June 2, 1954 in Ballymacragh, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland. He graduated from St. Gerald's College in Co. Mayo in 1973 and came to America shortly after. He worked for a good 26years in New York City working in industrial HVAC. Mac attended the Community Church of Wurtsboro for two years and later the Mamakating Bloomingburg Christian Fellowship, both at the same location. He loved his job, feeding the birds, and being in nature since living in Wurtsboro reminded him of Ireland. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, shooting, kayaking, hiking, camping and inventing things to make life easier. Although he came across as being tough at times, deep down he had a good heart and was willing to help anyone in need. He is survived by his wife: Suzan Davidowicz, at home; his five children: Patrick (Jen) McDermott, Tara (Juan) Pachon, Kerry McDermott, Thomas McDermott and Diane McDermott; the mother of his five children: Rosemarie McDermott; three grandchildren: Nolan, Juan and Conner; a brother: John (Marian) McDermott; five sisters: Maureen Flannery, Frances O'Brien, Philomena (Tony) Egan, Ange (Austin) Gannon and Eileen Everard; a stepdaughter: Jenny (Prince) Sanchez; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister: Patricia Custy. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, August 18 from 12:00 to 2:00pm at the Community Church of Wurtsboro, 134 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with a service starting at 2pm with Pastor Anthony Ciaccio officiating. Burial will follow at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro. A reception will be held back at the church hall following the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org or to the American Heart Association www.heart.org or to the Mamakating Bloomingburg Christian Fellowship (MBCF), P.O.
