Obituary of George M. Pfeister Jr.
George Matthew Pfeister Jr. of Rock Hill, a retired Local 373 pipe fitter and 52 year resident of the area, died Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown surrounded his loving family. He was 83.
The son of the late George M. Pfeister Sr. and Hortense Corwin Pfeister, he was born October 13, 1934 in Middletown.
George proudly served our nation in the Army Corps Engineers during the Korean War. He was a member of the Rock Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and an accomplished musician, who played for many years in the local area. George’s hobby was collecting and fixing antique clocks. He loved his home and family, and was known to them as Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Carole Manahan Pfeister, at home; a daughter: Susan Gottlieb & her husband Steven; three sons: George Pfeister III & his wife Lorraine, Thomas Pfeister & his wife Ronnie, and James Pfeister; five grandchildren: Matthew, Kelly, Eric, Rachel and Leslie; three great grandchildren: Madeline, Charlotte and Graham; a brother: Nicholas Pfeister & his wife Sheila; a sister: Eileen O’Dell; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Paul.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, April 24 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro, with a prayer service starting at 6pm at the funeral home. Interment of his ashes will be held at a later date with military honors at the Sullivan Co. Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
