Obituary of Sarah M. Hindley

Please share a memory of Sarah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sarah Michele Hindley fought and won twelve, love-filled years against cystic fibrosis, but succumbed to her fight on March 25, 2018 at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Sarah was born on June 22, 2005 in Albany, NY to Richard Hindley and Michele Pittenger. A sweet, loving, stubborn girl, she was full of energy with a contagious smile and laugh. "She was the only kiddo who needed a nurse just to manage her social calendar, because within the first few days of school everyone wanted a turn to sit at Sarah's table," said Erin. Those who knew her would describe a spunky kid who feared nothing. A master at puzzles, it was something she turned to for contentment while in and out of the hospital. Her tiny frame housed a grown woman's demeanor. She often joked with her siblings claiming their dad all for herself. As described by Barbara, "She was surrounded by a large, complicated family with lots of love to go around, and was often referred to as 'our Sarah'." Survivors include her parents, Richard and Michele; her six sisters: JoAnn McRae, Anna and Kaylie Pittenger, Erin and Colleen Hindley, and Regina Lewis; her eight brothers: Michael and Randy Pittenger, Charlie, Donald, Craig, Harry, Daniel, and Richard C. Hindley; her maternal grandmother, Jackie Decker; her 19 nieces and nephews: Theresa, Brittany, Amalia, Tyler, Brianna, Nicholas, Dominic, Austin, Anthony, Megan, Olivia, Madison, Nate, Anastasia, Alivia, Roman, Xavier, Alexis and Emma, her very best friend. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Sarah is predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Harry Hindley and Ethel Dolan; maternal grandparents, Michael and Deana Decker; her uncle, Robert "Charlie" Hindley, and her sister, Alicia Pittenger. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sarah's name can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at cff.org. Family and friends are invited to gather from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 30 at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
