Julia Mae Dawson, a lifelong resident of Monticello went home peacefully to the Lord, Friday, August 9, 2013 at home with her loving family by her side. She was 59. Julia was the daughter of the late Paul Button & Anna Weston; she was born on November 14, 1953 in Charleston, S.C., where her aunt Louvenia Lasane raised her. Julia moved to Monticello when she was 17 and she found work in the hotel industry, The Raleigh & Kutsher’s most notably. During that time she met and married the love of her life, Edward Lee Dawson. They went on to have 4 children. Julia’s home had an open door policy and all of her children and their friends were always welcome. Her generosity and random acts of kindness were well known. If the less fortunate needed something she would oblige them. Julia was also a lover of daytime television, especially soap operas The Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful as well as the game show, The Price Is Right. Music also was a strong presence for Julia. She loved R&B music and dancing to her music. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all that knew her. She is survived by his loving husband, Edward at home; three sons: Robert Dawson (Cymande Dugan), of South Fallsburg, NY; Justin Dawson (Latisha McRae), of Middletown, NY; and Julian Dawson, of Monticello NY; one daughter: Miecha Stergis (Alonzo) of Rock Hill, NY; Aunt Nancy Hudson of CT; two sisters: Linda Williams of Middletown, CT and Thomasina Robinson of Manhattan, NY; her mother in-law, Mattie Dawson of Monticello; sister in-laws: Agatha Dawson, of Monticello, NY and Clara Fore, of Syracuse, NY; best friends, Colton and Diane Sledge & family, her 16 beautiful grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. In addition to her parents, her sister, Lonnie Mae Williams, predeceased her. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 from 10am-12pm at Bethlehem Temple Church, 93 Fairground Road, Monticello, NY. The funeral service will follow at 12pm with Bishop Mervin Armstead officiating. Burial will follow in Sullivan Co. Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty, NY.
