Obituary of Robert Howard Hawkes
Robert Howard Hawkes, 81 of Wurtsboro, NY passed away on Friday, February 9th, 2018 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY.
Robert was born on December 13th, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to the late James Edward Hawkes I and Frieda Eden Hawkes.
Robert had accomplished many things during his 81 years of life. He held numerous positions in the Boy Scouts of America; he was the President and Commissioner of the Wurtsboro Fire Department, as well as a Commissioner with the Summitville Fire Dept.; a Court officer in Sullivan County for 15 years; a NRA instructor, a member of the American Legion, a 30+ year employee of ITT, and last but not least, he was an US Army veteran. Robert was a dedicated John Wayne fan and the cowboy of our family. He loved fishing, hunting, and going to the gun range during his free time. Robert was the type of man, no matter how long you knew him, he left an everlasting impression on you. Robert was an amazing father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many who will be dearly missed.
Robert is survived by his children: Terry, Wayne, Scott (Marielena) and Ward Hawkes; his 14 grandchildren: Nicole, Louis, Vincent, Josephine, Samantha, Tabitha, Joseph, Toniann, Alexander, Alexis, Brianne, Carissa, Scott, and Bryson; 12 Great grandchildren; his two best friends: Mike Hamilton and Ronnie Croce; and his companion: Paula Hutton.
He was predeceased by a brother: James Edward Hawkes II.
A celebration of Bob's life with military honors will be held sometime in the Spring.
