Obituary of Patti Moore

Please share a memory of Patti to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Patricia Kathleen "Patti" Moore was called home on February 1, 2018. Patti led a remarkable life. She contracted polio at a very early age. With the help of a loving family, and many dear friends but mostly through personal determination Patti flourished for all of her 66 years despite her disability. Patti's personality lit up Wurtsboro during her teenage years. She excelled in college and earned a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Hofstra University. She served as the Director of the Long Island Center for Independent Living (LICIL) for over three decades. Under her leadership the agency thrived. Patti advocated for the rights of all Long Islanders with disabilities but had a special place in her heart for the underserved disabled Hispanic population which led to the development of an outreach program. Upon retirement Patti returned to Wurtsboro and rekindled her special role with family and friends. Her home became the base for family gatherings. She pursued her love of cooking, ranted about politics, and showered her family with gifts. It became one more great chapter in her life. Her many pets provided her with great joy through all the chapters of her life.

Mostly Patti took care of all of us. Her greatest joy in life was telling people about her parents, her brothers, and her army of nieces. Patti met Marisol Arevelo in 1996 and had a hunch that it might have been the beginning of a wonderful friendship. It was.

Patti was predeceased by her father Thomas Charles Moore, her mother Patricia Irene Moore, and her sister-in-law Tish Moore. She is survived by her brothers Thomas, and his long-term partner Mariann Stepp, Kevin, Sean and his fiancée Marilyn Ejercito, Daniel and his wife Jamie, Brian and his wife Conchita, and Brendan. Patti is also survived by many nieces, a nephew, and her colleague and closest friend Marisol who helped make her life so much better.
