Obituary of Margaret J. Nye
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret J. Nye of Mountaindale, formerly of Bloomingburg, a retired librarian for the Bloomingburg Library, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility. She was 80.
The daughter of the late Joseph LaCorte and Helen Zubris LaCorte, she was born January 12, 1937, and raised, in Brooklyn.
Margaret's first employment was for Bell telephone as an operator. She then served as Librarian for the Bloomingburg Library for over 30 years. Her passion and love for the library and the need for education was evident through her advocacy to establish a library in the Town of Mamakating. To many residents of Bloomingburg (Mamakating), she was more than just a librarian, but a friend or a "second mother". She would visit shut-ins to bring them books or just to spend time. Margy encouraged local teens to come into the library with their friends in the bad weather to stay warm. In return they would help around the library. She treated everyone as important and that they mattered. She will be greatly missed.
Throughout her life she enjoyed many hobbies including Bingo, Mahjong, knitting, crocheting and a wide array of puzzles. She was a member of the Home Dem. Club.
She is survived by her husband of over 62 years: Richard J. Nye; a daughter: Linda A. Nye of Middletown; a son: Michael Nye (Marilyn) of Middletown; four grandchildren: Tanya Vega (Eddie), Majid S. Mahmood (Dessire), Jennifer Nye (Andrew) and Michael J. Nye (Jennifer); and three great grandchildren: Talia, Leah and Amelia. The oldest of seven children, she is also survived by her siblings: Annette Ferraro (Angelo), Joseph LaCorte (Patricia), John LaCorte (Joanne) and Helen Klopman (David); a brother-in-law: Al; a sister-in-law: Frannie; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister: Yolanda Cito; and a brother: Frank LaCorte.
