Obituary of Nancy L. Benton

Nancy L. Benton, 64, a lifelong resident of Liberty, New York, passed away after a long illness on Monday, December 18, 2017, at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, New York. She was the daughter of the late William and Grace Ramsey Benton. She was predeceased by her parents and both of her beloved brothers, Wayne and Thomas. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Polly, of Pine Island, Florida, her aunt, Joyce Ramsey of Sidney, New York, several cousins, and the many, many dear friends she made throughout her life. Nancy wore many different hats. She worked at Grossingers Hotel and Singer's Restaurant in Liberty, New York, and the Paramount Hotel in Parksville, New York and at Ryan's Buffet and Golden Corral, in Crossville, Tennessee. Along her life's journey, she was, among other things, a dog groomer, a newspaper columnist, a medical office worker and an antique entrepreneur. She briefly lived in Florida and Tennessee before returning to her hometown and her friends in Liberty, New York. She had a great sense of humor, was straight forward and told you like it was. She had the true sharp, quick wit which was the "Benton" trait. Her passion was her critters, may they be cats, dogs or birds or any other animal that needed help. She loved photography and spent many hours taking pictures of wild birds, deer, and of her cats watching the birds and squirrels. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in her name to either Feathers and Fur Animal Rehab, 24 Corkscrew Road, Barryville, New York 12719, which is the rescue group that took in her two elderly cats, or to an animal rescue of your choice. A Celebration of Life and interment of ashes will be held at the Liberty Cemetery, in Liberty, New York, in the Spring of 2018. Further details will be announced on Social Media.
