Obituary of Evans L. Powell

Please share a memory of Evans to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On the beautiful, yet sadly unforgettable Saturday morning of December 23rd, 2017, the angels called and came to escort Evans Powell into the ever-open arms of our Lord and Savior. He was born on October 4th, 1961, in Clarendon, Jamaica. He loved and greatly indulged in his ethnic heritage of Jamaica through traditional song and dance, native (and natively inspired) cuisine, and spending time traveling back and forth between his birthplace of Jamaica and his re-established home of Monticello, NY. Evans had a profound love for the automotive antiquities, outdoor recreations, landscaping, and attending church ingesting the word of GOD. Evans was a proud Coach USA Transit Operator for over 17 years. He never missed a day on the job, even during the worst weather. His motto was, "the job must be done!". Evans is survived by his loving and caring wife of 25 years, Sonia Tate-Powell, son Travan Powell, and daughter Rihanna Powell, of Monticello, NY; son Evans Powell Jr. of Connecticut; daughter Patricia Tate-Smith and Son-In-Law Darius Smith of Birmingham, AL; Simone Powell-Henderson of Queens, NY; mother Thelma Ellis of Tampa, FL; brothers Lascelles Brown (Jr) and wife Val, Steve Kennedy, and Errol Thompson; James Dawes and Heather of Jamaica; sisters Naomi Thomas and husband Willie, Rose, and Chris Chatman, Victoria Rowe, JoAnn McDonald all of Tampa, FL; Michelle Kennedy of Queens, NY; grandchildren Dylan and Daryn Smith of Birmingham, AL; Evans and Cynnya Powell of Connecticut. A very special thanks goes out to a host of nieces and nephews that stood by his side until the day of his departure: Fabian Clough, George Mendez, Oshane Tate, Damaine Tate, Evett Tate, Michael Washington, David Williams, Larry Williams, Nyoki Tate, Althea Mitchell, Shannon Ramsay. Thank you to my sister Yvonne Tate, Sister-In-Law Darret Tate, cousin Gale Moore and extra special thank you to Beryl Rhoden, Pamela Parks, Cheryl Robinson and the entire church family at First Church of GOD of Fallsburg. Viewing will be held at First Baptist Church, 28 Liberty Street, Monticello, NY on Saturday, December 30, 2017, from 11 AM to 12 PM. Funeral service will be held immediately following viewing. Pastor Hall and Rev Jay Wonder will officiate. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
