Harold Edward Matthews, "Matt", of Bloomingburg, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor. He was 74.
He was born September 20, 1943 in Yonkers, one of nine children of the late Joseph R. Matthews and Lucia Boyce Matthews,
Matt served in the US Army from 1965-1971, and was a member of the Haverstraw Ambulance Corps; and the Hillcrest Fire Department and American Legion Post 151 in Middletown. He also loved to bowl at Earl Anthony Bowling Alley in New City.
He is survived by his wife: Kristin Tomlin Matthews of Bloomingburg; two daughters: Dawn Marie Rotundo of Chester and Nicole Matthews of Bloomingburg; three grandchildren: Eric, Jake and Jenna; his father- and mother-in-law: Charles and Winifred Tomlin; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, December 6 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7 at 11am at the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, High Street in Bloomingburg with Fr. Anthony Trung Nguyen officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen.
