John Anthony Sr of Monticello NY was born on July 26, 1940 to the late William and Leila Anthony in Albany GA. John was retired from the United States Postal Services beginning in Monticello before ending in Newburgh NY after 40+ years of employment. During the years priors to illness, Pop as he was called by his family, loved his grandchildren and his family. He could always be found at a sporting event or traveling to take his grandchildren to a sporting event no matter the distance. He never missed an event for his children or grandchildren. While in Monticello he could be found hanging out with his childhood friends at Stewart?s or on Broadway talking about the happenings in Monticello. John, known as Uncle Bud to his family in GA and FL, enjoyed traveling to see his sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins so much that he took this trip multiple times yearly. When not visiting GA or FL, everyone enjoyed coming to NY to see Uncle Bud and spending their summer vacations with him in NY. Prior to his death John was able to attend his twin sisters 89th surprise party in FL with his wife and children. He was able to see most of his extended family during that trip. On July 26th, 2017, Pop was surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren to celebrate his 77th birthday. John leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Susan, sisters Onell, Inel and Nethema, children Jay(Carol), Raymond(Tanya), Marc(Kathi)and Maxine. His grandchildren who he adored; Chantel, Jarell, Matthew, Taj-Monet, Briar, Brett, Hailey and Cassidy. He also leaves behind four Great Grandchildren and many special nieces, nephews and cousins whom were thought of as his children. John was predeceased by his brothers James and Nelson and sisters Wylene and Nellie and his grandchild Atiyah. Family & friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, November 8 from 6-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 11am at the Bethlehem Temple Church, 93 Fairground Road in Monticello. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
