Vera Mae Stubbs of Columbus Ohio, a 43-year resident of Monticello NY, passed away at The Sciota Rehabilitation Facility in Columbus Ohio on Thursday October 26, 2017. She was 91. Daughter of the late Frank Robinson and Avie Taylor Robinson she was born May 11, 1926 in Fort Deposit Alabama. Vera worked at the Monticello Raceway until retirement, then held several other positions working with the disabled at Sullivan ARC and the Bennett Residence. Vera was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello NY, as well as the Friendship Baptist Church in Ferndale NY, serving on the Usher Board, The Missionary, Church Secretary Treasurer and lent her voice to the Choir. Vera and her twin sister Era's favorite duet was "A Charge to Keep I Have". Affectionately known as Madear she leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters Ora Campbell (Frank) of Columbus, Ohio, Anne Walker of Monticello NY, Corrine McFarland (Cornelius) of Monticello NY, 4 Sons Jesse Stubbs of Piscataway NJ, Richard Stubbs (Sal) of Brooklyn, NY, Curtis Stubbs and Jose Stubbs both of Monticello NY, her twin sister Era M. Smith (Willie) of Liberty NY, sister in law Lina Robinson of South Carolina, 2 daughters in law Ella Stubbs of Queens NY and Valerie Stubbs of Monticello NY; 27 Grandchildren, 42 Great Grandchildren, 12 Great Great Grandchildren, A special Nephew Arthur Robinson of Monticello NY; 2 special great great grandchildren Tre Barton and Dwayne Johnson both of Columbus Ohio, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends. She was predeceased by her Husband James Henry Stubbs, 3 Sons John L, Stubbs, Robert E, Stubbs and Willie J. Stubbs, 1 Daughter Dorothy M, Stubbs, 2 sisters Vinnie Jones, and Flossie Ware, 2 brothers Willie F, Robinson and Ellis Perry and 1 Great granddaughter Janeesha Pope. A Family Statement reads: Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God has chosen for me, I took his hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all, I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play, Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've now found peace at the end of day. My life's been full, I savored much, good friends and family a loved one's touch. Don't lengthen your pain with undue grief, lift up your heart and peace to thee, God wanted me now, He set me free. Visitation will be held Friday November 3, 2017 from 11am to 12pm at the First Baptist Church, 29 Liberty Street Monticello NY. Home going service to follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. Bryan Lyle officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc.
