Obituary of Luis Torres Cardona

Luis Torres Cardona, "Louis" of Monticello, a former baker at the Concord Resort Hotel, departed this life on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 84. The son of the late Raul Torres and Gloria Cardona, he was born June 3, 1933 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Louis was a resident of Sullivan County for over 50 years. Also known as "Papa Torres", he was a staple in the community and loved by many. He was a former Board of Trustee member of the Monticello Housing Authority, and had a great love of baseball - the New York Yankees being his favorite team. He also loved WWE wresting and fast sports cars. Louis was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand in his community. He leaves to cherish his memories, his children: Milagrosa Hernandez & her husband Jose, Alberto Torres of & his wife Tina, and Aida Bennette & her husband David; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 11 siblings; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife: Aurora Torres; three sons: Miguel Palau, Luis Angel Torres and Wilfredo Torres; a brother; a grandson; and a great grandson. Family & friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 3 from 5-8pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 4 at 10am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. John Sheehan officiating.
