Obituary of Robert H. Patterson

Robert Howard Patterson, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in South Carolina. Bob was a veteran of WWII. He retired in 1986 from being a caretaker of the Saint Thomas Villa, Sisters of St. Joseph in Monticello, N.Y. After his retirement, Bob lived in Sparrowbush, N.Y. His compassion and joy for life was evident until the end. Bob lived a long, full and bountiful life filled with his love for nature, and his passion for hunting, fishing, carpentry, gardening, model trains and bowling. We are so very privileged to have had him as our Father. We cannot begin to express all of the wonderful teachings and experiences that Dad has created for us. Dad is one of the greatest and largest loves of our lives. We feel so blessed to have had Dad in our lives for all of this time. There is such a void in our lives at this moment, we cannot even begin to explain it, or to even comprehend how to continue without Dad being by our side. We will tell you one thing though. Dad taught us well. We will move forward, leading by example of all of his teachings and hope to continue to live our lives as fully and excitedly as our Dad. What a challenge we have facing us! Dad, we love you. We can sense you standing right here over us. We know you are smiling. Mom, Irene Veronica Patterson, is happy too. She has waited at those Pearly Gates for quite a while along with their little Angel great grandson. We have one question though, who are we going to call tomorrow? Surviving are his son: Robert I. Patterson and his wife, Linda Patterson; his daughters: Lillian Goss, and Virginia I. Mitchell and her partner, Roger A Voyer; Grandchildren: Jennifer Root, Robert Patterson, Jr., Christine Parenteau, Irene Banas, and Mary Goss; 7 great-grandchildren; and his companion, Marion Mapes. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello, N.Y. on Friday, September 29 at 11:00am.
