Obituary of Keith D. Root Jr.

Keith D. Root Jr., 36 of Mountaindale passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, August 22, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Born September 23, 1980 in Goshen, NY to Keith Root Sr. and Kathy Begley, he was raised in Wurtsboro, NY as the first of two children. He attended Monticello High School where he participated in baseball and soccer.

Keith is survived by his loving wife, aka “his girl”, Hayley (Woolsey) Root, and their three cherished dogs Charlie, Jersey and Copper. Keith also leaves behind his numerous close friends whom he considered family, his grandmothers, brother and extended family including his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Keith has many passions in life including music, fashion, food and travel. He is remembered for his cool, collected and laidback personality which made others feel welcomed and comfortable to be in his company.

Although his time with us was too short, Keith was able to fulfill many of his lifelong dreams including finding and marrying the love of his life, starting his own business and traveling around the world.

Keith’s fight was not an easy one, but loved ones can be comforted knowing that despite the trials he went through, the past two years created an unbreakable bond between him and his wife where he felt safe, loved and at peace.  They are deeply humbled by and grateful for the outpour of love and support from friends who traveled from near and far to be a shoulder to lean on through such difficult times.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro, NY. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date with additional details to follow.
