Claude M. Messenger Sr. of Monticello, a retired truck driver and lifelong resident of the area, died Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty. He was 86.

 

The son of the late Claude L. Messenger and Edith Price Messenger, he was born June 10, 1931 in Monticello.

 

An avid hunter and fisherman, Claude was a lifelong member of Jackson Hunting Club in Monticello; and a lifetime member of the Teamsters.

 

He is survived by two sons: Claude "Ne" Messenger & his wife Janet, and Gary Messenger & his wife Brenda, all of Monticello; five grandchildren: Michael (Mollie) Messenger, Brian (Flo) Messenger, Neil (Shannon) Messenger, John Howard (Veronica) Messenger and Dylan Messenger; nine great grandchildren; two brothers: LeRoy Messenger of Monticello, and Howard Messenger & his wife Linda of Coral Springs, FL; three sisters: Lillian Ernst & her husband Sonny of Monticello, Ella Price of Monticello, and Nancy Messenger of Taiwan; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by his wife Mary; a brother-in-law: Les Price; and a sister-in-law; Judy Messenger.

 

Family & friends are invited to gather on Monday, July 31 from 6-8pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 1 at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow at Messenger Cemetery, Southwoods Drive in Monticello.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene.
