Obituary of Lettie Leone Goodman

Lettie Leone (Cobbett) Goodman died on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Montgomery Nursing Home.  She and Al, her beloved husband of 54 years had retired to Wurtsboro in 1998 leaving Rockland County, their home for over 65 years.

Leone and Al raised four children, Cynthia Goodman (Ellen Mulligan) of Montrose, PA, Alexis Lemm (Jerry) Stony Point, NY, Alexander Goodman III (Adrienne) Wurtsboro, NY, and Peter Goodman (Beth) Wurtsboro, NY.  They were the proud grandparents of fifteen, great grandparents of seven, and aunt and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Leone lived her life smiling and laughing.  She met the trials placed in her pathway on her terms, with open arms, a giving heart and always some baked goods.  She loved music, her church, Maine, the ocean, camping, Rummi-cube and especially her family.  Leone never hesitated to open her home to anyone she deemed in need.  From a baby to a lonely soul sitting at a bus stop on Easter morning, she opened her heart and her home.

Leone had the ability to laugh at herself and all things that came her way.  She lived life with joy. Her colorful clothing combinations, haphazard gardens, experimental food concoctions and personal decorating style made her the women who met life with a smile and carefree attitude. She found humor in all situations and reveled in her collections and clutter, laughing off all suggestions to downsize.

While we mourn your passing Mom, we celebrate your life and all the gifts you have passed on to us in your own way. We love you Mom, grandma, Aunt Leone.  We will miss you always but see and hear you every day in the laughter of your grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 23 from 2-4pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro, with a repast to follow at the family home.
