Obituary of Robert John Klein

Robert John Klein of Rock Hill, a retired switchman for New York Telephone Co./Verizon, died of complications from a progressive form of Parkinson's Disease on Friday, July 7, 2017. He was 84. The son of the late George A. Klein and Hilda Haymann Klein he was born April 4, 1933 in the Bronx. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved being outdoors, whether it be gardening, bicycling, cross country skiing or cutting firewood. He also enjoyed woodworking, either building an addition to their cabin or making rocking chairs and toys for his grandchildren. Bob & Betty especially enjoyed times at their beloved cabin upstate and traveling to many National Parks. He also served in the United States Navy and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Elizabeth Johnson Klein, at home; a son: John Klein & his wife Mary of Duvall, WA; two daughters: Kathryn Gregory & her husband Richard of Poughkeepsie, NY and Linda Canfield & her husband DeForest of Oxford, NY; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother: George Klein & his wife Edith of Portsmouth, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Family & friends are invited to gather on Friday, July 14 from 1-3pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. A memorial service will take place at 3pm at the funeral home.
