Obituary of Loretta "Dolly" G. Murray

Loretta G. "Dolly" O'Brien Murray, of Phillipsport, a retired bookkeeper with Sprague & Killeen in Ellenville, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Valley View Center in Goshen. She was 92.
The daughter of the late Patrick Joseph O'Brien and Gertrude Langlois O'Brien, she was born October 25, 1924 in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Thomas E. Murray Sr. who predeceased her on January 10, 2006.
Dolly was a communicant of both St. Mary/St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Ellenville and St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro. She was also a member of the Phillipsport Community Center, the Summitville Fire Co. Auxiliary, the Mamakating VFW Auxiliary and the Mamakating Seniors. She also served in the United States Navy during World War II.
She is survived by a son: Thomas E. Murray Jr. & his wife Angela of Wurtsboro; a daughter: Barbara Murray of Ellenville; her "adopted" son: Paul Ross of Ellenville; two grandchildren: Bridget and Peter; two sisters-in-law: Doris O' Brien of Hunter and Lillian Martin of Thomasville, GA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by two brothers: Joseph O'Brien and Patrick O'Brien.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, June 22 from 10-11am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Valley View for the extraordinary care given to our mother, Dolly, over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity that helps those suffering from Alzheimer's or Leukemia.
