Obituary of Evelyn M. Parks

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evelyn M. Parks, who retired as Town Clerk for the Town of Forestburgh after 32 years of public service, died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, after a brief illness, with her family by her side. She was 75. The daughter of the late W. Irving Seeley and Bee Evans Cross, she was born May 6, 1941, in Middletown. She was the widow of her beloved Joseph T. Parks, who predeceased her on February 12, 2001. Evelyn was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a charter member and past District Director of the New York State Town Clerks Association, a charter member of the Orange-Sullivan Town Clerks Association, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Wanaksink Lake Club. "Evie" will be remembered for her love of Forestburgh and "The Lake". A warm and generous spirit, she was a "mother" and inspiration to many, and was loved by all that knew her. Whether cruising around her beloved Wanaksink Lake or enjoying a game of cards with lifelong friends, her love of life and the people in it, as well as her quick smile, made her a joy to be around. Showering her talented and spirited granddaughters with love kept this proud Nana young at heart. She is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Landis, and her husband, Michael, of Forestburgh; her son, Thomas M. Parks, of Forestburgh; and her two granddaughters, Taylor & Maredith Parks. She is further survived by her nephews, Michael T. Schwartz (Linda) and Kevin G. Schwartz (Susan), and their children Daniel, Mark, Jacob and Eric. Family & friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 27, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, April 28, at 11:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church, 15 St. John Street in Monticello with Rev. Diana Scheide officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, PO Box 107, Monticello, New York 12701, or Nesin Cultural Arts, PO Box 249, Monticello, New York 12701 (www.nesinculturalarts.org).
