Aracelis Ortega of Monticello, a seamstress, and former bookkeeper for Met Life, died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty. She was 93. The daughter of the late Roque and Ramona Colon, she was born November 14, 1919 in Ciales, Puerto Rico. She is survived by her two sons: Reuben Ortega of Paterson, NJ and Roque Ortega of Monticello; a daughter: Myrna Colon of Newburgh; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and a sister: Monig Hernandez of New York City. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 8 at 10am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. John Tran officiating. Burial will follow at the Sullivan Co. Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a local veterans charity of one's choice.
