Obituary of Sophia Evangeline Simon

Sophia Evangeline Simon, “Eve”, of Kiamesha Lake, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Catskill Regional Medical center in Harris. She was 78.
The daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Kostangelopes, she was born December 27, 1938 in Paterson, NJ.
Eve was a very active member of the community. She was an 1199 Union delegate, a member of the Monticello Kiwanis, was on the Board of Directors for the Kiamesha Shores Property Owners Assoc, President of the We Care committee for CRMC, employee of both the month and year at CRMC, a supporter and fundraiser for both the MS Society and the WSUL Heart-a-Thon, and an auxiliary member at CRMC.
She is survived by her spouse: Susan L. Simon, whom she shared an amazing life with; two sisters: Sotira “Sandy” Shibley & her husband Bill of Edison, NJ and Bessie Anuskiwitz of Bricktown, NJ; nieces and nephews: Katherine, Maryann, Ann, John and Nicky; several great nieces and nephews; and many area friends who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters: Athena Adams, Katherine Britton and Elizabeth Moustakis.
Family & friends are invited to gather on Saturday, March 18 from 6-9pm and on Sunday, March 19 from 2-4 and 6-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20 at 10am at the funeral home with Fr. Chris Talleos officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, NJ.
The family would like to thank the Oncology Department at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris for their outstanding support given to Eve. The family also extends a personal thank you to CEO Gerard Galarneau, Dr. Shahzad, and Rolland “Boomer” Bojo for all their support and comfort during these difficult times.
