Obituary of Joan L. Dunn
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born December 8, 1930 on the family farm in Hurleyville, NY, Joan Marie, the youngest of the four Daniel and Grace Lounsbury children, entered into Eternal Peace on November 24, 2014 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center.
Joan was a retired RN for the Sullivan County Public Health nursing service and the Community Health Center of Middletown. A devout Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was a friend to all.
She is survived by her sister Alida Brinkerhoff of Middletown, NY and predeceased by her brothers Albert (Bud), Harry (Jim) Lounsbury, and her loving husbands James R. Dunn, and Harold W. Lindsay.
She was blessed with four sons; James E. and wife Mada of Monticello, NY, Gary D. and wife Wendy of Rosetta, PA, Robert A. and deceased wife Debra, Richard S. Dunn, and fiancé Dawn of Wurtsboro, NY; her beloved grandchildren Robert and wife Jolyn, Michael, Adam and wife Doreen, Gena and husband Eric, Amanda and husband John, Matthew, Krista and husband Jake, and Christopher, and great-grandchildren Aleah, Kaylie, Mason, Madison and Giana. In addition to her immediate family she leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and other friends and family.
Lastly, she is survived by her loving Christian family of the Community Church of Wurtsboro where she was a church elder, a member of the consistory, organist and choir member, a former sixteen-year Sunday school teacher, was active in the helping hand society and the food pantry, and was an organizer of the Advent Tree Project.
An avid member and past vice president of the Mamakating Historical Society she was often queried for her extensive knowledge of our local History and genealogies. Other achievements include being a member of the Wurtsboro Fire Company and American Legion Auxiliaries. In addition to receiving the Michael Diamond Foundation Award she was a long-serving treasurer of the Half Moon post card club. As a member of the NYS Nurse's association she avidly supported the wounded warrior project.
Visitation will be held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Friday, November 28, 2014. Funeral Services and the celebration of her life will be held at the Community Church of Wurtsboro on Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 10:00AM.
