Obituary of Hannelore I. Lavicska
Please share a memory of Hannelore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hannelore I. Weber Lavicska entered into eternal rest on Sunday November 9, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center with her daughter by her side. Hannelore was born on April 4, 1939 in Zweibrücken Germany. She was the daughter of the late Otto and Amanda Müller Weber. She was predeceased by her beloved brother Otto.
Hannelore was a World War II baby and she often spoke about her experiences during and after the war as a child in Germany. She grew up helping out in the family bakery business and had fond memories of delivering cakes and breads to their customers on her bicycle.
Hannelore moved to the United States in 1959 where she later met her husband and started a family. They moved from Queens Village, Queens to Wurtsboro Hills in 1971.
She was the proud owner of the Wurtsboro Liquor Store, a business she single-handedly operated since 1977. Hannelore adored her customers and considered them to be her second family.
Hannelore was a loving mother who raised three children on her own. She was a hard worker who often sacrificed things for herself so that she could provide for her children. In addition to having a huge heart, she was a giver, a protector, and a wonderful listener. Her favorite saying was 'This too shall pass' and she was always right.
Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and painting, but she enjoyed spending precious time with her family most of all. Her strength, love, generosity, kindness, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren.
Hannelore is survived by her son Mickey Lavicska and his wife Cheryl, her daughter Susanne Gille and her husband John, and her daughter Monika Roosa and her husband Michael. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Alexis, Nicholaus, and Mia Mazzochi, Mickey Lavicska, and Preston and Jovi Roosa.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff in the SICU 3 West unit of Orange Regional Medical Center. We will never forget your kindness and the compassion you showed our family in our mother's final days.
Anyone who knew Hanne knew she wasn't a big fan of funerals; she preferred to remember people in life. To honor her wishes, in lieu of visitation or services the family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Hannelore's favorite charity, the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101-9929.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
