Nicholas "Nick" Olah, a retired house painter and former resident of Monticello, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, FL. He was 92. Nick was born May 6, 1920 in Oradea, Hungary and came to the United States in 1949. When he first came to the States he was a superintendent in an apartment house in the Bronx. He then became a well known and respected house painter in the Larchmont and Mamaroneck area of Westchester County. From 1949 until 2010 he lived in New York State and then the last two years he has resided in Port Charlotte, Florida. One of his happiest moments in his life was to see his two sons graduate from High School and College. He was also an active member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in White Plains, NY and then again at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish in Forestburgh, NY He is survived by his two sons and their families: Gabe Olah and his wife, Jane and Nick Olah and his wife, Rohainie; two granddaughters; Renee Olah and Pamela and her wife, Kerri and family; nieces: Ildiko Kiss, Elizabeth Orosz, Aniko Madden, and nephew Zoltan Papp and their families. He also has family members in Hungary and Romania. His godson Miklos resides in Hungary. He was predeceased by his wife Ilona . Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3 from 4-8pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 4 at 11am at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Forestburgh with Fr. Ivan Csete officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Forestburgh.
